Starting out as a family publication founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by a young college professor, The Black Collegian has become the central publication of a media company. The magazine focuses on career preparation and job seeking for African Americans. Since Hurricane Katrina damaged its New Orleans headquarters, the publication has reached its audience primarily through its Web site.
