Jordan: 1920 to Present: Middle East

Jordan was founded in 1946 when Great Britain granted independence to an area under its mandate in southwest Asia and placed it under the rule of Amir Abdullah. With the incorporation of the territory of the West Bank and the inclusion of around 400,000 new Palestinian citizens, it officially became the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1950. The country is bordered by Israel in the west, Syria in the north, and Iraq and Saudi Arabia in the east.
