AMERICAN CLIMATOLOGIST AND professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, Senior Fellow at the Center for Environment Science and Policy of the Institute for International Studies, and professor by courtesy in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University since September 1992, Schneider has been an outspoken advocate of the global warming theory since the 1980s and has helped draw public attention to the issue of climate change. He has argued for sharp reductions of greenhouse gas emissions to combat the phenomenon. Schneider has also served as an adviser to different U.S. administrations and federal agencies since the presidency of Richard Nixon. His research includes modeling of the atmosphere, climate change, and the relationship of biological systems to global climate change. Schneider was born on February 11, 1945, in New York.
