One of the largest and oldest of Japanese toy producers, TOMY is notable for the diversity of the toys, games, and electronics they have introduced to both domestic and international markets. From an early wind-up bubble blowing elephant to Licca, a fashion doll to Meow-lingual, a cat translator device, TOMY has created hundreds of successful toys and games. Eiichiro Tomiyama founded TOMY Tomiyama Toy Seisakusho in 1924. As the company gained international success, particularly in the United States, the name was shortened to TOMY. In 2006, TOMY and rival Toyko toy company Takara merged; TOMY is still called TOMY in the United States, but it is officially called TAKARATOMY elsewhere.
