Women's leadership in education: University presidents One of the most critical challenges that all organizations face today is the shortage of prepared, effective, and ethical leaders, and this is indeed the case within higher education. A subset of this overarching challenge includes specific concerns related to preparing, hiring, maintaining, and supporting senior women administrators. The fairly recent appointment of Drew Gilpin Faust as the first female president of Harvard University has definitely ignited a plethora of media articles, reports, and stories on women's leadership in colleges and universities across the United States and beyond.
