Chapter 2: Structure and Contents of a Research Paper

Structure and contents of a research paper This chapter describes the structure and contents of two main types of academic research papers, namely, conceptual research paper and empirical research paper. The structure of these papers is described by listing the major parts that are contained in them. The content of these two types of papers is described by outlining the major details of the research process and/or the outcomes that are included in the various main parts of these papers. In this chapter, the word ‘research’ is omitted in referring to conceptual research papers and empirical research papers, and they are referred to as conceptual papers and empirical papers, respectively. As outlined in Chapter 1 , the structure and contents of a dissertation/thesis report contain elements of both a conceptual paper and an empirical paper and, hence, the description of structure and contents aspects of a dissertation/thesis is not repeated. ...
