Sexual Assault, Male

Sexual assault is any form of unwanted sexual contact, which may range from exposure and fondling to various forms of sexual intercourse. Many researchers consider male sexual assault to involve a male victim being subjected to unwanted sexual contact that includes, but is not limited to, forced penetration of the anus or mouth by a penis, finger, or other object. Male sexual assault can occur between intimates, friends, acquaintances, or strangers and between males of any age (although the sexual assault of children is often classified under the category of sexual abuse). According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (Bureau of Justice Statistics 2001), 14,770 cases of male rape/sexual assault were reported in the year 2000 (these figures include victims aged twelve and over). This represents a decrease from 1999, when 39,340 sexual assaults on male victims were reported in the United States (Bureau of Justice Statistics 2000). In contrast, ...
