Socialist Feminism: From Androgyny to Gynocentrism, Equality to Difference
I am here going to chart three changes within socialist feminism over the last fifteen years. It has, I argue, moved in large part from androgyny to gender difference, and from Marxism or revolutionary socialism towards an accommodation with, if reform of, the political and social system we know now. Further it has increasingly focused on differences between groups, and not only groups of women; also demoting, or failing to mention, class. Following a preliminary discussion, I shall centre on the work of Iris Young. For Young, in any event a major writer, exemplifies these trends.
