Galton, Sir Francis (1822–1911)

Francis Galton was born in Birmingham, England, in 1822. He is best known for coining the term eugenics , from the Greek for “well born,” in 1883. Galton was heavily influenced by his cousin Charles Darwin's book On the Origin of Species (1859) and his position as a member of the British elite.
