Men and women work in different jobs, and often do so in different organizations. The differing distribution of men and women across positions within the occupational structure may be referred to as the “sex segregation” of occupations. The term segregation may be more familiar in the context of residential segregation by race and ethnicity, but there are a number of analogies that may be made between residential segregation and occupational segregation.
