Having it all: Feminist fractured foundationalism While the theory and practice of feminist research is central to the development of feminist scholarship, once vibrant debates about feminist methodology have presently reached an impasse. After overviewing the main themes in recent discussions of grounded feminist research, we discuss the work of some interesting ‘border crossers’. There is, however, a fissure or fault-line in this work, an impasse introduced by failing fully to confront the differences between normative/realist epistemology and anti-foundationalist epistemology. The way out, and a means of ‘having it all’, resists the notion of warring binary epistemologies and involves the development of a ‘feminist fractured foundationalism’. Its main characteristics are delineated and discussed, and it is presented as a ‘toolkit’ for practical use rather than an abstract system to be repetitiously re/stated.
