A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this world: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.
Although Locke's words refer to individual human beings, by analogy one could argue that a similar holistic dependency exists between the earth's human population and the global ecosystem. Humans must achieve a sustainable relationship with the global ecosystem or the well-being of both suffers.
