Rural Regions and Innovations
Geographers study change because it transforms regions, places, and societies. Innovations cause and support change, and changes often encourage further innovation. Rural regions offer many opportunities for geographers to study the causes and effects of change and how society can modify change or adapt to change to increase the human quality of life. This chapter highlights some of the recent and ongoing changes that are transforming rural regions, some of the innovations driving these changes, the key innovations that geographers will be using, and opportunities for geographers to contribute to understanding and improving rural life.
