Some psychological concepts essential for human resource managers Why is the study of behavior important for human resource managers? Simply put, it's because effective human resource policies, programs, and procedures recognize and take advantage of the behavioral principles that underlie employee and organizational performance. Practitioners, whose ultimate goal may be to recruit and retain top talent, to provide meaningful benefits and compensation, or to develop a high-performing workforce, however, often design and implement programs through trial and error or respond blindly to the influence of “best practices.” Unfortunately, these managers seem unaware of the theoretical foundations that explain why some programs succeed and others fail.
