Equality at work Equality - and its shadow, inequality - has long been a concern in the field of industrial relations (IR). Such inequality has many fault lines and some have received more attention than others. It is measured in several different ways, most commonly through wage outcomes, but also through differences in life-term earnings in retirement income, hours of work, the security of employment, employee voice at work, and access to promotion and a variety of other conditions and rights.
