Employee motivation

We discover the concept of motivation through our own experiences of desire and aversion. A motive is a physiological or psychological based desire that incites a person to action. Motivation affects choice, effort and persistence (Latham, 2007). Employees make choices as to what they will aim for, the amount of effort they will exert, and how long they will persist in pursuing what it is that they want to attain. A taxonomy for predicting, understanding, and influencing motivation in organizational settings includes needs, traits, values, cognition, affect, and the environment/context (Latham and Pinder, 2005; Locke and Henne, 1986).
