Introduction
The construct of trust has long been a central feature of theories of co-operation and collective action (Deutsch, 1962). In the organizational sciences, the relevance of trust to both theory and practice has arguably grown in recent decades as innovations in technology and organization have led to less formal and hierarchical modes of controlling and coordinating labor (Tyler, 2003). The volume of research generated in this field in recent years is illustrated in recent quantitative and narrative reviews of trust (Colquitt et al., 2007; Dirks and Ferrin, 2001, 2002; Lewicki et al., 2006).
