Law and society scholarship in Israel is a recent phenomenon. Authors dominated the subject of law with doctrinal analyses at the judicial and academic levels well into the 1980s. It was only after the Supreme Court of Israel adopted a more interpretive legal-realist style of reasoning in its rulings, and only after a new generation of legal scholars graduated from U.S. universities during the 1990s, that law and society scholarship emerged in earnest.
