Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country of approximately 4 million people located in the Balkan region of southern Europe, bordered by Croatia to the north and west and Serbia and Montenegro to the east and south. Following a declaration of independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in March 1992, the country was wracked by a series of interethnic conflicts that eventually ended in 1995 with the Dayton Agreement and the establishment of two entities—the Bosniak/ Croat Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnian-Serb-dominated Republika Srpska—within Bosnia and Herzegovina's previous international boundaries. As of 2004, both the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska maintain separate police forces under the control of their respective Interior Ministers.
