Legend of Zelda is a mythic quest action-adventure game that set the Guinness world record for the longest running action-adventure series of all time, spanning 1986 to 2007, and was the first Famicom Disk game released in Japan. For American players, the game was released in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and was revolutionary to gaming. Gamers could save their games and continue at a later time, exploring the expansive, detailed world map without an exact linear progression. In all Zelda games, Link is the main playable character, with Zelda serving the role as the fairytale princess waiting to be rescued.
