Mille Bornes (“a thousand milestones”) is a French card game that simulates a road race, combining strategy and luck. This family-friendly game serves socializing and skill-building purposes for younger players, while offering strategy challenges and nostalgia for older ones. Although three independent players can enjoy a match, Mille Bornes is ideally played in two teams of two. Before computer versions gained popularity, it was marketed as a family activity, and parents and children have ample opportunity to display interactive dynamics. The game fosters competition. Players slow or stop opponents through road hazard cards showing, among other things, flat tires and stoplights. Mille Bornes requires concentration, since participants must remember which cards have been played by teammates and opponents.
