Old Maid is traditionally a matching game for two to eight players that is played with a deck of 51 pictorial paper or plastic playing cards. The intent of the game is to match pairs of cards. Old Maid is a game dictated by chance and luck, rather than skill. All cards are dealt, and each player takes a turn drawing a card from the prior player's hand, discarding pairs as they are collected. There is no winner in Old Maid; however, there is a clear loser—the person left holding the unmatched card, or the old maid.
