In this chapter, we offer a postmodern theory of stakeholder enabling to help resolve the problematic nature of modern theories of stakeholder management. Modern stakeholder texts “center” managerial authors who adjudicate stakeholder differences by exercising discretion within a hierarchically defined (and hence constrained) organizational space. By comparison, a theory of stakeholder enabling engenders stakeholder-firm interdependence and consists of a postmodern (a) epistemology of interdependent, connected knowing, (b) ontology of interactive organizational forms, and (c) praxis of organizational discourse.
