Organisations can develop by internal and external means within their own country or internationally (international development is discussed in the next chapter). Organisations undergo internal development by building on their own resources and capabilities to develop products or services under their own control. The advantages of this means of development is that over time competences are developed and skills are retained. However, it may not be the fastest or cheapest way to market, and many organisations do not have the resources, skills, time or inclination to undertake development by this means.
